Christmas decorations should all be about creating a festive atmosphere in your home. Every room can use a touch of Christmas magic and whether you have a traditional interior in your home or prefer a more contemporary approach to Christmas decorations, you’re sure to find something to suit your tastes and bring the joys of Christmas into every room.
Whether it is a fireplace with stockings that brings warmth to a room, a beautifully decorated Christmas tree or a colourful lighting installation, the living room is often the main focal point of many homes and should set the festive tone for the entire house.
Similarly, since it's the centre of Christmas meals, the dining room table is often the place most decorated and people often find that a well-designed Christmas centrepiece for the table creates a memorable display for the family meal.
Below are some of our top tips on simple Christmas decorations that allow you to decorate your home beautifully and enjoy for weeks, or you can visit our Pinterest boards for more inspiration (Decor, Traditional and contemporary ideas)
- Don’t be afraid to use red and green, for a modern twist on the traditional table settings layer red and green tableware in different hues and designs.
- Create a lovely tablescape by using groupings of different objects, such as vases, bottles, and goblets.
- If your fireplace deserves a little focus, festive Christmas mantel decorating ideas includes garlands, simple wreaths and twinkling Christmas lights.
- Instead of a garland, try a mix of candlesticks to dress a mantelpiece — tall, small, glass, crystal - and use different coloured candles to give it another twist.
- Create a Christmas aroma by lighting cinnamon or spice-scented candles, which will also create a lovely twinkling glow in the room.
- For added holiday sparkle, try mixing metallic’s by using both silver and gold in your decorative accents.
- Don't hold back when wrapping Christmas presents, make them exuberant with colourful ribbons and papers - so much more joyful!
